Our Story

Over the past several years, Sugar Magnolia has grown to include social and corporate catering, and custom orders that meet the needs of customers who have specific dietary restrictions or needs.

In October of 2017, a new dining space called Pearl’s Kitchen is slated to open and will serve as the dining area for Sugar Magnolia’s most-loved specialties.  Lunch will be served Monday through Friday.  Offerings include sandwiches, salads, soups, and a daily Magnolia Plate Special—that is served with Sugar’s famous dessert of the day (DOTD). Future plans include adding weekend brunch service and dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Sugar Magnolia opened here in our current location in 2010, with an initial focus of providing traditional Southern baked goods, plus other essential take away items such as chicken salad and family friendly casseroles.  Customers quickly learned why Sugar Magnolia Takery is not your ordinary  bakery!

Elizabeth considers Sugar Magnolia’s recipes to be “homegrown,”—having come from family and friends. Bakery items include cookies, chess squares, brownies and cake truffles, along with pies, custom cakes, seasonal items and party foods. Entrée items include meatloaf, poppyseed chicken, chicken spaghetti, lasagna, pot roast, Southern style casseroles and vegetables, and homemade soups.

"I came home from the hospital today and both my sister and a dear friend had brought meals to us from the Takery- I love that they were frozen, so we chose one to bake for tonight. The lasagna was a huge hit with all of us including my 7year old son. The rolls were phenomenal- our neighbors son ran in saying,"what's that great smell I love?!" Ha- I'm having some cobbler now, and I cannot wait to try the chicken pot pie tomorrow night! A native of Jackson, Mississippi, Elizabeth Arnold is the Owner/Operator of Sugar Magnolia Takery located in Flowood, MS.

Elizabeth earned her Bachelor’s degree in Human Health and Family Studies from Samford University and her Master’s degree in Education from Montevallo.  Elizabeth’s love of baking and many of her recipes, came from her grandmother, Mary “Pearl” Arnold.

Once you meet Elizabeth, you'll see that the food is not the only sweet thing about Sugar Magnolia !
